According to the federal government, Switzerland should have a functioning ecological infrastructure by 2040 - a nationwide network of areas that are necessary for the conservation of biodiversity. InfoSpecies has developed the basis for planning and implementation by the Confederation and cantons. So-called quality indicator species played the main role here. All data and information centres of the various species groups, including SwissFungi, defined species for various habitat guilds (e.g. mountain coniferous forests, raised bogs and intermediate bogs) that indicate qualitatively intact habitats. These include many species of fungi. In the InfoSpecies publication "How much area does Switzerland's biodiversity need?" (in German), the analyses of existing quality areas and area requirements are described in detail. The report also contains a recommended description of the various guilds and names the corresponding characteristic species.
